The Specialist Group Group on Water and Wetlands (SGWW) has been established under the auspices of the Commission on Environmental Law (CEL) of IUCN. It consists of over 60 experts in the field of water law and policy with backgrounds in academia, legal practice, international institutions, governmental agencies, and NGOs. The Specialist Group currently focuses its work on three priority topics, for which it has established three specialist sub-groups, These priority topics include:
- Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
- Legal and Institutional Arrangements for Transboundary Water Cooperation
- The Human Right of Access to Water and Sanitation
The SGWW also seeks to provide general advice and assistance to the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and to the IUCN Environmental Law Centre on matters relating to water resources law, policy and regulation.
